Wondering if anyone thinks that home advantage plays any sort of role at all in divisional rivalries? You would think it would. You would expect the crowd to be pumped up for that game against your most bitter rivals that you most want to beat. But the stats dont reflect this:
Jets/Dolphins -Road team has won 5 out of the last 6 games. The won the home team won has with a TD with 00.04 left.
Raiders/Chiefs - Amazingly this match-up had produced 7 consecutive road victories before the Raiders won last week to snap the streak... but even then... they barely managed it in OT.
Last year the Broncos WON all 3 divisional road matches and LOST all 3 divisional home matches. This year already the Giants/Cowboys games have the road team 2-0 and most people fancy Phily and Washington to be the same after tonight. Would anyone be surprised if the Steelers won in Baltimore?
Other examples from last year: Houston V Tennessee, Buffalo V Jets, New Orleans V Tampa Bay. Even the Panthers were very close to victory in the Superdome only to be steamrollered by the Saints at home a few weeks later this year.
The only division in the NFL where homefield advantage seems to count for anything is the NFC North. This year, the home teams are 6-0 so far.
